Desktop Antenna

Are these any good. I have a Uniden 3500 XLT. I bought a telescopic antenna

from Maplin's as its better than the supplied rubber one but wondered if
it 
was worth investing in a desktop multi antenna. I cannot have an external 
one put up so think it may be a better option?
