Why does this make me feel that ratings will drop
to the unmeasurable level as with college radio?
Wrong, CBC! This is is so like other stations and
people metres will show it in the next seasons.
Do all these people have early leaving clauses in
their contracts so that they can quit by December?
Have they removed the glazier points sup****ting
the windows in Boyce's office?
This may be hell in Canada.

PostNew CBC Radio 2 host and Canadian musician Buck 65.
Listeners tuning in to Rich Terfry's new mid-afternoon radio show debuting
on
a revamped CBC Radio 2 this September should expect an eclectic playlist.
Sitting in a dressing room in the CBC headquarters in Toronto yesterday,
he
rattles off a list of the kind of musicians he'll be playing: K'naan, Ron
***smith, Jenn Grant, Sweatshop Union, Kathleen Edwards, Sarah Harmer.
If CBC hopes to make Radio 2 "as interesting and adventurous as what you
have
on your iPod," as executive director of programming Chris Boyce told the
crowd
at a kickoff event yesterday, then Terfry -- better known as the
Juno-winning
hip-hop artist Buck 65 -- is a good place to start. He'll be hosting Radio
2
Drive weekdays from 3 p. m. to 6 p. m.
The above-mentioned artists certainly aren't going to assuage the fears of
fans still complaining about the station's ****ft in format, with some
seeing
classical music getting short shrift. As of today, more than 16,000 people
had
joined the Facebook group "Save classical music at the CBC." But in his
speech, Boyce called the new Radio 2 "one that will be more relevant to
more
Canadians."
Terfry knows there will be a lot of scrutiny, and he's prepared himself
for
it.
"I can understand people being upset because they want to have their
classical
music," he says. "I can also understand that there are certain people who
may
be concerned that this might mean that somehow this is [a] less
intelligent
and challenging program? I think those fears will be put to rest really
quickly."
"[I] myself am a fan of classical music, and I know there's a real fight
there
that needs to be fought for classical music," he says. "But just as much,
at
least, as you can argue classical music is im****tant, the music that we're
going to be playing on this show is really, really, really im****tant as
well,
and doesn't really have a platform on the radio right now. "
Radio isn't a new gig for Terfry:He hosted a show in Halifax for 11 years,
and
recently guest-hosted on CBC Radio 3.
The show will showcase 75% Canadian content and mainly focus on music from
the
past few years.
"We really think that there are a lot of Canadian artists out there that
don't
get any radio [play]," says the show's senior producer, Michelle Parise.
Terfry agrees: "We'll definitely be waving that Canadian flag out the
window,
that's for sure."
