Pileup With Nobody

by "Sal M. Onella" <salmonella@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Dec 20, 2007 at 11:41 PM

I was listening on 20 today around 2200 GMT. On multiple freqs, like
14.200, 14.202, 14.208, 14.210, etc, hams were sending their callsigns,
obviously wanting to be recognized by somebody desireable station who was
operating split. I never heard the other station, but one op referred to
him as "Marty." I spent about a half hour wandering the band, but failed
to
hear any station(s) they were trying to work.

What I have not been able to find was who they were calling. Is there a
reliable way of finding out? I checked for DXpeditions at several
Internet
sites, but I didn't encounter any specifics. ARRL web no help with
specifics.

I know there is a DX packet cluster frequency and I wonder if I should
have
tuned it up.

I know good DX can be a matter of luck; however, hearing the other guys
calling on multiple freqs today suggests there was planning that I needed
to
hook into -- in advance.

Comments? Ideas?
